Profiles & communities

How to manage auth communities, view user profiles, and use the hover card on avatars.

Communities

Communities are not a sidebar tab. You switch communities from the header / community picker at the top of the sidebar.

What is an auth community?

Each OAuth provider or wallet type (Google, Twitter, MetaMask, etc.) maps to an auth community — a shared namespace for messages, presence, and visibility rules.

Switch community

  1. Open the Canopi sidebar.
  2. Click the community name or logo in the header.
  3. Select a community from the list.
  4. Discuss, Visibility, and feeds scope to that community.

Join a community

  1. Sign in with a new provider (Google, wallet, etc.) from the auth flow.
  2. That provider’s auth community is joined automatically.
  3. Switch between communities you belong to via the picker.

Community stats (member count, activity) appear on the logo cloud embed for site owners.

User hover modal

The User Hover Modal is a profile card that appears when you hover an avatar in Discuss messages or the Visibility tab.

Step by step

  1. Hover a user’s avatar (dwell ~300ms).
  2. Card appears with:
    • Display name and handle
    • Headline / bio snippet
    • Social links (if set)
    • Mutual communities (communities you both belong to)
  3. Actions:
    • Add Friend — send friend request
    • Message — start DM / open room flow
    • View profile — opens app.canopi.live/u/<handle>
  4. Move pointer onto the card to keep it open while clicking links.
  5. On touch devices: long-press the avatar.

INFO

The small anchor affordance beside some avatars in Discuss opens anchor context — it does not open the user hover card.
