Smart tags
Smart tags are typed actions you apply to page content or messages. They power the widget modal, Discuss filters, and compose flows.
Two tag tiers

Use smart tags from the page
Text selection
- Select text on the page (minimum word threshold applies).
- The widget modal appears near the selection.
- Tap a tag action (Discuss, Bookmark, React, etc.).
- For Discuss → compose modal opens with a context anchor.
- For Bookmark / React / Share / Follow → action runs immediately on the anchor.
Image hover
- Hover an eligible
<img>on the page. - Widget appears with the same action grid.
- Choose a tag as above.
Right-click context menu
- Select text or right-click an image (when anchor-eligible).
- Choose a Canopi menu item (e.g. 💬 Start discussion).
- Same pipeline as the widget.
Tab gating
Smart tag actions from the page require an anchor-eligible tab (Discuss, Visibility, Rooms, People, Agent, Timelines, Bookmarks, Patches, Wayback, Settings, Manage) — or the sidebar can be closed (widget still works).
Filter the Discuss feed
Open Discuss → click Filter (⌄):

Tag chips
Filter by smart tag type (Discuss enabled; Task/Quote/Question/Tag visible but disabled until shipped).
Active filters show as removable pills below the bar and a dot on the filter button.
Attention ordering
Use the attention dropdown in Discuss to sort the feed:

Set your default in Settings → attention filter preference.
Smart tags in focus mode
When viewing a thread in focus mode, the anchor row shows the same action grid as the widget footer — Discuss, Bookmark, React, Share, Follow, Copy.
