First-run vs full tab list

New users see a focused set: Discuss, Visibility, Agent, Bookmarks, People, Settings, and Manage. Additional tabs (Rooms, Timelines, Wayback, Patches, etc.) can be enabled in Manage.

Discuss

Purpose: Page-scoped message feed — discussions tied to the URL you are on, optionally linked to selected text or images (context anchors).

Step by step

  1. Open the Discuss tab.
  2. Read messages for the current page in your active community.
  3. Use the top bar:
    • Search — filter by text
    • Filter (⌄) — anchor type, scope, smart tags (details)
    • Attention dropdown — Latest, Relevant, Following, This Community, This Anchor, Governance, Quiet
    • + — compose a new message (sign-in required)
  4. Click a message to open focus mode (thread view).
  5. Reply, edit, or pin from message actions.
  6. Click the icon on a message to jump to its context anchor on the page.

Active message (for anchors)

When attaching an anchor from the page without composing first:

  1. Click a message row in Discuss to mark it active (subtle highlight).
  2. Use the widget modalDiscuss.
  3. Confirm attaching to the active message, or choose another target.

Visibility

Purpose: See who is on this page right now — online users, dwell time, and avatars with presence aura.

Step by step

  1. Open Visibility.
  2. Browse avatars of users currently on the page.
  3. Hover an avatar → User hover modal (profile, Add Friend, Message).
  4. Adjust trace/visibility defaults in Settings if you want shorter or longer presence history.

Rooms

Purpose: Page-linked chat rooms — group conversations scoped to the current page or anchor.

Step by step

  1. Open Rooms.
  2. Browse existing rooms for this page.
  3. Create or join a room.
  4. Send messages inside the room.
  5. Open a room from an anchor or share link when provided.

People

Purpose: Social directory — friends, follow requests, and blocks for the current context.

Step by step

  1. Open People.
  2. Choose a sub-tab:
    • All — discover people
    • Follow — people you follow
    • Requests — pending friend/follow requests
    • Blocked — blocked users
  3. Click Add Friend on someone’s profile card.
  4. Use the menu on a row → Follow or Block.
  5. Accept or decline incoming requests on the Requests sub-tab.

Agent

Purpose: AI assistant that reads the current page (including YouTube metadata when available) and answers questions in sidebar context.

Step by step

  1. Open Agent (sign-in required).
  2. Type a question about the page you are viewing.
  3. Read the response grounded in page content.
  4. Ask follow-ups in the same session.

TIP

Agent works best when the page has readable text content. For video pages, it may use available metadata.

Timelines

Purpose: Temporal history — events and activity for the page or community over time.

Step by step

  1. Open Timelines.
  2. Scroll the timeline for the current context.
  3. Open an item to see detail or linked messages.

Public timelines are also available at timeline.canopi.live.

Bookmarks

Purpose: Saved messages and anchors — personal folders plus community-popular bookmarks.

Step by step

  1. Open Bookmarks.
  2. Browse your folders or top community bookmarks.
  3. Click an item to open in focus mode.
  4. Bookmark from the page via the widget modalBookmark, or from a message action.
  5. Move items between folders when organizing.

Patches

Purpose: Propose and review content patches on anchored regions — improvement suggestions with governance signals. Requires the Patch smart tag entitlement.

Step by step

  1. Enable Patches in Manage if hidden.
  2. Open Patches on a page with anchors.
  3. View patch stacks per anchor.
  4. Create a patch from the widget (when Patch is enabled) or from Discuss.
  5. Review, supersede, or accept patches per community rules.

Wayback

Purpose: Internet Archive integration — save and browse archived versions of the current page.

Step by step

  1. Open Wayback.
  2. See the current page URL.
  3. Submit to Save Page Now, or pick an existing CDX snapshot.
  4. Open or Compare archived versions in a new tab.

Settings

Purpose: Account and extension preferences.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Adjust:
    • Theme — light / dark
    • Aura & cursor — presence display style
    • Visibility & trace — how long you appear on pages
    • Attention filter — default Discuss sort mode
    • Social links — links on your public profile
    • Go invisible — hide presence temporarily
  3. Changes sync via your account preferences.

Vault

Purpose: Personal ordinal vault — view wallet inscriptions. Not in the tab ribbon.

Step by step

  1. Open your profile menu (top of sidebar).
  2. Select Vault.
  3. Browse your inscription grid.

Manage

Purpose: Configure the sidebar itself — always visible at the end of the ribbon.

Step by step

  1. Click Manage (⚙).
  2. Drag tabs to reorder.
  3. Toggle the eye icon to show or hide tabs.
  4. Adjust how many tabs show before overflow.
  5. Browse the App Store to install SDK extension tabs.
  6. Open Manage tags (meta tier) for smart tag configuration when available.
